St Andrew By The Bay Catholic Church

PASTORAL COUNCIL NOMINEES - 2008

Tina BrockI have been a member of Saint Andrew by the Bay since January 1995. I moved to Annapolis with my husband (who was stationed at the Naval Academy, but since retired) and three sons, who have grown up participating in many activities at St. Andrew. I am involved in several ministries at church including teaching second grade PREP, Children’s Liturgy of the Word, and Vacation Bible School. I have also volunteered with the Youth Work Camp for the last five years. I enjoy singing and cantor at mass on Saturday night or Sunday 8 a.m. mass. Finally, I have had the pleasure of serving on the Pastoral Council for the last two years, and was a co-chair for the Art Auction last November. As an Early Childhood Special Education teacher, I possess patience and am an optimist. I am also a retired Senior NCO and bring my skills of leadership to the council. I hope to help the parish grow in the next two years, reaching out to help satisfy more individual needs.

Chris Carlson and his family joined St Andrews by the Bay in 2001 when they moved to Arnold from Severna Park. His previous involvements at St Andrews include working with the Homeless Shelter and a board member of the Capital Campaign. He and his wife, Joanne, have three children, Josie (13), Will (11) and Maggie (7). Other volunteer work includes coaching his kids in football, basketball and soccer. Chris graduated from the United States Naval Academy and has a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Loyola College. He is an equities trader at T. Rowe Price in Baltimore.

Michelle CassidyMichelle joined Saint Andrew by the Bay in 2001 upon moving back to the area from West Chester, Pennsylvania with her family. She and her husband have four daughters, Tate, 4, Abagail, 7, Riley, 9 and Michaela, 10. Michelle holds a B.S. degree from Salisbury State University, and University of Maryland at Baltimore, Physical Therapy. She formerly worked in acute and sub-acute rehabilitation as a Physical Therapist until staying home with her daughters. She is interested in returning in the near future to work in geriatrics. An active member of the parish, Michelle has taught and assisted in Prep, VBS, Kids for Jesus and has been a participating member of the family club and women's bible study since they both began in 2001. More recently, she assists in outreach with chores and more and St Ambrose casserole project. In March, 2007 she began a Ranger Rosary guild at SABB to meet the increasing requests of Rosaries by Military Chaplains for our men and women soldiers serving in harms way. She enjoys volunteering at Windsor Farm Elementary and is interested in social inequalities in our area, spiritual growth opportunities for families and growing our parish closer together.

Gretchen CorlettaMy family and I have been members of St. Andrews for five years. My children participate in Prep and K4J (a program designed to teach virtues to children). I am active in teaching Prep, Lighthouse shelter, winter shelter and women’s bible study. My husband Robert is an Annapolitan and I am from a military family – although I do have strong ties having had lived here at different times. I am a graduate of Mount Saint Mary’s College. My job experiences have mostly consisted of the non-profit sector. I have provided counseling services and worked with the following populations: foreign exchange students, low income, and the elderly and young adults. I am eager to help the parish in any way I can.

Helen MaherMy family and I have been members of St. Andrew by the Bay for the past twenty years. I have two sons and three grandchildren. I serve as a Eucharist Minister and a member of the teaching team for the Bible study group. I have visited our sister parish, San Francisco de Asis, in El Salvador three times and try to help maintain that relationship through my membership on the Justice and Peace Committee. I have helped out with the Emergency Winter Shelter, RCIA and the PREP program. I look forward to continue being involved in our parish life.

Glenn McKnab - My wife and I have attended St. Andrew by the Bay since 2001. Joann is a "cradle" Catholic and I was raised as a Presbyterian. I made the decision to participate in RCIA in 2004 and proudly joined the parish in 2005. After finding out from Father Gosnell that I was now a "neophyte", I began looking for other ways to expand my knowledge of the Church. This spring, I am completing my second year of teaching 9th grade PREP, and participate in the Bible Study Program for Inmates. I also help with the Emergency Winter Shelter and was a member of the Forward in Faith Capital Campaign Committee. I spent three years in the Army as a Cambodian linguist and intelligence analyst. I graduated from the University of Kentucky with a B.A. in Southeast Asian languages and area studies. I have worked for Hewlett-Packard Co. 24 years and am a Managing Practice Principal for Federal Accounts. I am eager to serve on the Pastoral Council and help the Parish wherever I can. Joann and I enjoy our home in Arnold which we joyfully share with our niece Daniele, and her one-year old baby Dezarae.

Ned Mierzwicki - Ned has been involved in the parish for five years. He has been Grand Knight of the parish council of the Knights of Columbus, a lector, Eucharistic minister, and adult education committee member. You may recall a five week course which he taught a few years ago at the parish on Eastern religions. Ned has been an educator all of his life by teaching high school English in Baltimore city schools, subbing in AA county schools, and as an adjunct professor at Univ. of Phoenix. Ned has a Master’s degree from the St. Mary’s Seminary. His wife, Cheryl, and Ned have raised two sons and live in Cape St. Claire. In Children’s Letters to God, Eliott wrote: "I think about you sometimes even when I am not praying." In a way, a child’s wisdom also says something about our mission here at St. Andrew Parish – thinking and praying.

Joe Poist – My wife, Kristina and I have been members of the parish for over 2 years since our move to the Broadneck peninsula from Crofton where we were members of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton. We have two children: Owen, 6, and Brooke, 1. Saint Andrew’s is the central focus of our family life and we cherish our time that we spend there as a family and as individuals. Our 6 year old, Owen, is involved with PREP and can’t wait until Sunday mornings so he can go to "Church School", as he calls it. I am actively involved with RCIA, and look to continue my role with the program in any way Sister Mary Teresa sees fit. I look forward to hopefully serving on the Pastoral Council to continue the great success that our parish has been blessed with.

Mike Riggin Michael and his family have been members of St. Andrew by the Bay for twenty-two years. He has two sons, Andrew and Matthew. His wife, Joyce, is employed as an Accounting Officer at the U.S. Naval Academy. She was a catechist at St. Andrew by the Bay for five years. Michael served as Secretary of the Parish Council from 2004-2006. He has also been a lector at the church for eighteen years and was the coordinator for the lectors for five years. Michael has a B.S. in Business Management and his MBA from the University Of Maryland. Michael was employed by Verizon until he retired in November of 2003, after 32 years of service. He is currently employed at Computer Sciences Corporation. Michael looks forward to serving on the Pastoral Council at St. Andrew by the Bay.

Steve ScheideMy family and I have been attending mass at St. Andrew by the Bay since 1978 when it was Our Lady of the Cape. We attended the very first mass in the new parish as St. Andrew by the Bay. My wife Julie and I have three children and four grandchildren with one on the way. I have always served as needed or when asked to do so. I sat on the original building and planning committee during the construction of the new parish. My business is in the homebuilding industry. I also served as head of the ushers and Eucharistic Minister. I have watched our parish grow over the years while facing the challenges that are inevitably going to be a part of that growth. I am very optimistic about the future of our parish. I pray that St. Andrew will continue to grow and that I can give back in a meaningful way to God and our church that has given me so much in my life.
