St Andrew By The Bay Catholic Church

Welcome to St. Andrew by the Bay Justice and Life Ministry

Extend your mercy towards others,
so that there can be no one in need
whom you meet without helping.

For what hope is there for us if God
should withdraw His Mercy from us?

My Sisters Place Casserole Project
(Click above for more info)

Contact Maureen Bennett, bennettm2@verizon.net

The casserole project provides lunch once a month to needy women and children at My Sister’s Place, Catholic Charities’ new day shelter next to the Basilica in Baltimore.  Members prepare and freeze casseroles at home and place them in the Parish Center freezer.  On the 2nd Monday of each month 8-10 of our project members take the casseroles to My Sister’s Place and serve the lunch meal.  There are no meetings to attend, no special talents needed, just follow the provided recipes.  Parishioners can volunteer to prepare food and/or help serve lunch on a monthly or occasional basis.  This is an excellent ministry for families.

This ministry  serves many people in the Broadneck Community who may be shut in, elderly, temporarily homebound of any age, just home from the hospital, a single parent, or persons of any age who need a short term helping hand. The program is sponsored by the Churches on the Broadneck Peninsula.  Volunteer services are available seven days a week. There is no cost or obligation to the recipient for support services.  St. Andrew's committee does not have regular meetings, however, every three months an executive meeting is held with the sponsoring churches.  Services provided by the program are normally performed by an adult.  However, on occasion young people are enlisted to help.

This committee assists our Clergy in bringing Holy Eucharist and fellowship to parishioners who are homebound. They also make a yearly donation to the Joseph Ritchie House in Baltimore and Our House in Arnold, which are Hospices for Aids patients. Two healing masses a year are sponsored by our ministry. Ministers are encouraged to bring the parishioners they visit to church. There are no scheduled meetings, the time commitment is minimal, about one hour per week.

Justice and Peace Committee

Justice and Peace accepts as their mission to contribute to the parish's understanding of contemporary social issues in light of the church's teaching on social responsibility, and to promote opportunities for parishioners to respond to these issues.
The committee has three goals: to serve as avenues for education of ourselves and our parish on social, political, and moral issues; action as advocated for gospel based social policies; and the formation of a community that seeks to interpret the Word of God to have real meaning in our daily lives so that we may follow the model of Jesus Christ.
Generally, the Justice and Peace Committee's mission calls us to a role of advocacy in both a legislative and a public awareness orientation.  To this end we have formed a sub-group called the Issues and Action Group that deals with both long-term issues and ad hoc issues. The call to advocacy leads us to address issues of justice concerning the Preferential Option for the Poor, women's issues, the environment, political prisoners around the world, and any area of injustice as they arise. The committee facilitates our on-going sister parish relationships with San Francisco de Asis in El Salvador and St. Martin's Catholic Community in Baltimore.  We have formed a sub-group to facilitate the communications with our Salvadoran sister parish. This group leads our parish in the translation of information both to and from San Francisco de Asis.  They also serve as translators during visits at mass and other events.
The Justice & Peace Committee meets on the third Friday of the month, with the exception of the months of July and December.  All parishioners, sixteen years and older are welcome.  We accept and honor members who can meet on a regular basis as well as those who can offer to assist our committee on a more limited basis.  No special talents or skills are required to participate, however, the translation committee is always eager to welcome those who offer their skills as Spanish translators and interpreters

My Brother's Pantry

The St. Vincent de Paul Society is an international, lay, Catholic organization that serves persons in need. Organized locally through its network of Parish Conferences, St. Vincent de Paul helps people, while leading its members to grow spiritually through service.
Our Conference was established at St. Andrew by the Bay in February of 1998. Over time, the Conference has grown not only in size, but spirit and function. Our continued growth allows us to more fully develop as a “joyful sign of God’s reign”. Currently, our members assist individuals in crisis by providing food, utility assistance, rent, referrals and other items of necessity to help them through a difficult time. As a group, we are involved in prison ministry, providing meals at the Lighthouse Shelter, and home/nursing home/hospital visits. Support is also provided to Allen Apartments as well as Camp St. Vincent and St. Ambrose. Annual events include Lenten fish dinners, Project Rice Bowl and Christmas sharing programs.
Volunteers are at the heart of the Society’s work and as a group we meet on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:30 PM. Attendance at meetings is not required. Opportunities to bear witness to your faith are many and varied within our Conference and we have no age requirements.   We urge you to come join us as we work together in Christ!

Severna Park Assistance Network (SPAN)

Established in 1990, SPAN is located at 400 Benfield Road in Severna Park, Maryland. Primary financial support is provided by sixteen area churches. Generous donations from civic groups, local business and private donors provide additional support. SPAN strives to assist those in our community who are facing a crisis situation. Forms of assistance include; direct financial assistance with eviction or utility turn off notices, emergency prescription needs, food pantry, referral services, as well as budget counseling. As a participating church sponsor, St. Andrew by the Bay provides ongoing financial assistance to SPAN. Further, we provide trained assessment volunteers, pantry workers and members to the volunteer Board of Directors. As a volunteer, you are invited to participate in any or all of these activities. There are no required meetings.

Please join us as we strive to fulfill our mission of helping those
in need in our community.
