Youth Ministry Grades 6-12

Our vision of Youth Ministry begins with proclaiming the Good News of Jesus to young people and encouraging them to become his disciples. Our challenge is to present the Good News in a way that young people can make the connection between what they are hearing and how it applies to their lives today, as part of their life-long faith journey. To accomplish this, we must incorporate the spiritual, social, cultural, and developmental areas of an adolescent’s life. We must identify their needs and interests and provide appropriate ministry and programming in response.

The appropriate approach to effective youth ministry is one that is comprehensive. The blueprint for accomplishing this can be found in the document “Renewing the Vision: A Framework for Catholic Youth Ministry.” This document emphasizes the call to make ministry to youth a concern for the entire church community. In order to respond to the needs of our youth, we must focus on three goals: to empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today; to draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic faith community; and to foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person. Ministry to young people includes catechetical programs, creative prayer and worship experiences, service opportunities, mentoring programs, and the development of leadership skills.
