Programs for Men

Beer & Barron

WHO: Men of any age interested in the fearless orthodoxy, vivid faith and jovial community of Christian fellowship.

WHAT: Informally hang out and talk about topics important to Catholic men.  We socialize for about 45 minutes over beverages and snacks.  (Despite the group name, alcohol's not the point - non-alcoholic options abound.)  Then we share a short prayer, watch a video (usually from Word on Fire), and discuss it as a group.  There's no formal curriculum, but the connections and solidarity that grow out of these sessions mean a lot.

WHEN: 7:30-9:30 p.m. every other Thursday.

WHERE: Private homes.   We coordinate the meetings through our Google Group and a Google calendar. (No pressure to host  - some guys host a lot, others never).

HOW: We invite you to drop in and check us out.  There's no commitment - we say "once is better than never."

Knights of Columbus

Knights are Catholic men, 18 years of age and older, who are committed to making their community a better place, while supporting their Church. Being a Knight is more than camaraderie. It is being involved with your community, supporting St. Andrew by the Bay Church, enhancing your own faith, while protecting and enhancing your family life. This booklet offers an overview of what it means to be a member of the Knights of Columbus.

St. Andrew by the Bay Knights of Columbus Council #11552 was established on April 20, 1995. Imagine being part of an organization that fills your heart and your mind with the joy of giving to others and the feeling that comes with making a difference. Vivat Jesus!

St. Andrew Fisher of Men Bible & Catechism Study

All men of St. Andrew by the Bay and other parishes are invited to participate in the Fisher of Men Bible & Catechism Study. A group of men come together twice a month to help each other grow as disciples of Jesus Christ, deepen their personal relationship with Him through our Catholic faith, improve their servant leadership and evangelization capabilities by study of the Bible and the Catechism, and share their faith journey, challenges, and prayer.

Meeting time and place: To avoid work and family conflicts, the group normally meets early (7:30- 9:00 a.m.) on the first and third Saturdays of each month at the parish center and occasionally meets in the parish courtyard when the weather is appropriate.  To facilitate reaching men who cannot attend in-person meetings and during this extended closure of the parish center, we offer a virtual connection using Zoom.  If a meeting needs to be cancelled, it will be noted on the parish online calendar.  If you are curious or interested, email Bill at bbcummins@verizon.net or Jim at jimmccrea@comcast.net.

Study Guides: With the Bible and Catechism as the primary tool, the group has used various guides to focus their meetings but preparation ahead of time is not needed. The fellowship and faith -sharing at the meetings is as important as the learning that occurs. To guide discussion, the group has used lessons on the Bible and Catechism covering the Search for God, Virtue and the Sacraments, Bishop Robert Barron's study of St. Mark's Gospel, and for 2019-20, Scott Hahn's course from St. Paul Center on "Covenant Love: Introducing the Biblical Worldview" which explores the key covenants made in the Old Testament in order to see how they are fulfilled in Jesus and the Church.
